Trouble Shooting - Typical Technical Support Questions

Question: I'm having issues installing the software to my computer. I'm running windows XP and when I double click on the "setup" icon, I'm getting an error message that reads: "Cannot find SHELL.DLL"

Download Fix File For This Problem

I then click "OK" and it gives me another prompt: "system DLLs corrupt or missing".

Solution: This is a brand new problem that has seem to just pop up out of nowhere. If you do a Google search for this error you see it occurs with 16 bit programs (such as ours), on XP machines. The error is being caused by either spyware or a virus on your computer, but it seems that no one has figured out which.

But, here is the solution. The shell.dll is needed to run 16 bit programs. When you start our software or any other 16 bit program you will get the error because Windows can not find that file.

1)Double click on My Computer.

2) Double click on your C drive.

3) Double click on the Windows folder.

4) Double click on the System folder.

5) Copy (don't move) the file shell.dll by right clicking on the file. A pop-up menu appears. Select Copy.

6) Back out of that folder back to the Windows folder and find the System32 folder.

7) Double click on the System32 folder to open it.

8) Right click on and empty part of the window. A pop-up menu appears again. Select Paste.

9) The shell.dll file will appear in the folder.

10) Right click on the file itself. A pop-up menu will appear. Select Properties.

11) Check the Read Only box under attributes, and click apply.

The software will then work correctly.

Some people have reported that their computer will erase the shell.dll file from the C:\Windows\system32 as soon as they reboot or even close the system32 folder. Some have reported that the software will function as long as the system32 folder is open, and their systems will not delete the file unless they close it. If you are experiencing this problem, you should update your virus software as well as scan your system for spy software.

UPDATED: January 30, 2005

If the file deletes itself every time you reboot, try changing the properties of that file to "Read Only."

Question: When I try to install or run your software, I get the following error.

16 Bit Subsystem error

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose "Close"to terminate this
application.

Answer: This is another error similar to the one above. It is another case where a file that is suppose to be in the C:\Windows\System32 folder has been deleted by a virus, worm, or spyware. If you look at your C:\Windows\System32 folder, you will see that the AUTOEXEC.NT folder is missing. The file needs to be restored to this folder.

1)Double click on My Computer.

2) Double click on your C drive.

3) Double click on the Windows folder.

4) Double click on the Repair folder.

5) Copy (don't move) the file autoexec.nt by right clicking on the file. A pop-up menu appears. Select Copy.

6) Back out of that folder back to the Windows folder and find the System32 folder.

7) Double click on the System32 folder to open it.

8) Right click on and empty part of the window. A pop-up menu appears again. Select Paste.

9) The autoexec.nt file will appear in the folder.

10) Right click on the file itself. A pop-up menu will appear. Select Properties.

11) Check the Read Only box under attributes, and click apply.

The software will then work correctly.

If you receive the message '...Comctl32.ocx not properly registered...' then use the program 'Regsvr32.exe' to register the files. Visual Basic runtime files are dynamic link library files. They are used by the programs to perform tasks. The 32-bit programs on this web page must have the VB 6 runtime file msvbvm60.dll and/or comctl32.ocx in order to function. The VB runtime files are located in the 'C:\Windows\System' or Windows XP uses the 'C:\Windows\System32' folder in order for the programs to function.

Answer: Here are the steps needed to setup VB runtime files:
1) If you receive the message '...Comctl32.ocx not properly registered...' then use the program 'C:\Windows\System\regsvr32.exe' to register the files.

2) To use Regsvr32.exe to register a runtime file, click Start, choose Run then type the command line: 'regsvr32 comctl32.ocx' (Assumes both file are located in the 'C:\Windows\System' folder.)

Question: I installed your software and now I get an error "Runtime error 3170 Couldn't find installable ISAM"

Answer: Download The Visual Basic 6 Runtime Files - Click Here. This is a file is produce by Microsoft and should fix the problem.

Question: I Get The Following Error Message When I Try To Run Your Software.

Run-time error 713

Class not registered
Looking for object with CLSID:{00000100-0000-0010-8000-00AA006D2EA4}

The error 713 indicates that one of the supporting files, dao350.dll, (or dao350.dll) is not registered on your system. To fix the 713 error, register the dao350.dll file manually using the program Regsvr32.exe.

To register this file manually, do the following:

1) Click Start, then click Run.

2) In the "Open:" box, type in (or copy the line below and paste it)
Regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\dao\dao350.dll"

3) Click OK. The system should find regsvr32.exe program and register dao350.dll file (provided that the files regsvr32.exe and the dao350.dll exist on your system.)

4) If you get a message saying "DllRegisterServer in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\dao\dao350.dll succeeded," then you should be able to run the program.

Also if that isn't working some operating systems due to there service packs have the dll file called dao360.dll
to make sure just open the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\dao
and look to see which one you have. when you get that file name then go back to steps 1-4 but replace the dao350.dll with 360.dll.

Question: I have installed the program, and I don't understand how I'm suppose to move from question to question. There are buttons showing at the bottom, but they are blocked.

Answer: The buttons are being blocked by the Windows Taskbar. It is very easy to correct this. Follow the instructions below.\

Windows 98, ME, XP.

1) Click the Start button
2) Click Settings
3) Click Taskbar
4) Check Auto hide
5) Click OK

Windows XP

1) Right click on an empty section of the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen.

2) A Popup menu will appear. Click on Properties.

3) Check Auto-hide The Taskbar.

4) Click Apply.

How to Register an OCX File
If you are receiving errors about an ocx file, registering the file may solve the problem. To register an ocx file simply follow the simple steps below.

1.Locate the file using windows explorer or My Computer. Alternatively search for the filename.

2.Hold down the shift key and right click on the file. Then click 'Open With...' from the menu.

3.An 'Open With' dialog box should appear. Click the button 'Other...'.

4.Navigate to your windows\system32 directory and select the file 'RegSvr32.exe'. Do a file search for it if you have trouble locating the exact folder. On Windows 2000 it is typically located in c:\WINNT\System32. Click Open to select the file. Then click OK on the 'Open With' dialog.

5.You should see a message indicating the file was successfully registered. If you see an error message, try restarting your computer and going through the above process again.

This will get the taskbar out of your way so you can see the buttons at the bottom of the screen. To access the Taskbar simply drag the mouse to the bottom of the screen and it will appear again.

Question: Why is the screen look so large? It seems to run off the screen and I can't see the entire question or all of the buttons. Why is that?

Answer: Our newer software title are written to run in a 800 x 600 pixel screen area, which is a this time the industry standard. Follow the instructions below for changing your screen size.

1) Right click anywhere on your desktop and a popup menu will come up.
2) Click on Properties.
3) When the window comes up, click on the Settings tab.
4) In the Screen Area section, slide the the slider to the right until it says 800 x 600.
5) Click apply.

Also make sure that your computer is set to small fonts by clicking the Advanced button. Click the General tab and make sure the Font Size says Small Fonts.

Question: I previously downloaded your demo version, and now I just installed the CD you sent me and I still don't get all the questions. I click one of the later chapters and I get a message, "No Records, Add Some?" WHY is this happening??

Answer: You did not delete the Internet Demo Version first. We have set up the installation software so it does not overwrite an already existing database. We put this in to protect you. If you ever edit, delete or add your own questions, and you ever have to reinstall Windows on your computer, and thus have to reinstall our software, it will not overwrite your questions and wipe out your work.

The installation software looks to see if a question database exists. If it does, it leaves it alone and does not overwrite it. That is why you only see the first 300 questions.

To delete the Internet Demo version, follow these instructions:

Reboot Your Computer Before Doing Anything.

1) Double Click on "My Computer"
2) Double Click on the "C Drive" icon.
3) Scroll down until you see a folder called "Program Files," then Double Click on it.
4) Find the folder called "Sig102V4," and highlight it.
5) Press the "Delete Key" on your keyboard.

That should get rid of the Sig102V4 folder. You can now reinstall the software from the CD Rom and you will now have all the questions. See the installation sheet that came with your software. NOTE: If you installed the Internet Demo Version in another folder, you must delete it from that folder first before installing the new software from the CD Rom.

Question: I downloaded your software from the Internet, but it does not run. I keep getting a message that says, "Incompatible Data Base Version." Is there something the mater with the software?

Answer:

The problem is actually with your computer and it is fairly easy to fix. The problem is that you have more than one copy of a file called vbdb300.dll. Our software installs this file to your C:\Windows\System directory where it is suppose to be. But, you probably have another one of these files that is in simply your C:\Windows directory. If you delete or rename that one, the software will work. Follow these instructions to fix this problem.

1) Click on the Start button.

2) Click on Find

3) Click on Files or Folders

4) In the Named box type in vbdb300.dll and click Find Now. Make sure the Look In box says (C:). That will search your entire C drive.

5) You will see a list of all vbdb300.dll files on your system.

6) Rename or Delete ALL of these files.

7) Reboot your computer and re-install the software.

That should do the trick.

Question: I am trying to install the software from the CD you sent me, but it keeps asking me for a password. Where is the password?

Answer: The password key is located on the back of your CD Rom case. Copy it from there. If you ordered several programs, then the passwords will be located on a card right in the CD Rom case.

Question: I try typing in the password, but it keeps telling me that I have typed in an incorrect password. What is the problem?

Answer: One of two things may be happening here.

1) You are typing in the password incorrectly. Knightlite passwords are in this format:
Example: S102-LP-6687-2421. Make sure you do not leave any blank spaces before or after the password key. The password in NOT case sensitive so you don't have to worry about that.

2) You are trying to install the password with the wrong program. Knightlite ships all our software on one single CD Rom, with separate password keys to unlock the correct software. Make sure you are trying to load the software you have ordered.

Question: I am trying to load the software from the CD, but I get an error message that says the current file loading is "Already In Use." What is causing this?

Answer: You did not reboot your computer before installing the program. Rebooting will clear any file that is still in memory.

Question: I am trying to use you Ahsha Spells or Ahsha Math software on my Windows XP Machine. The character comes up, but he does not speak. What is the problem. The speech engines don't seem to work with Microsoft Agent in Windows XP?

Answer: Microsoft Agent uses SAPI 4.0 to provide speech services. Windows XP however now ships with SAPI 5.0 which does not provide backward compatibility support for its predecessor. Fortunately, SAPI 4.0 and SAPI 5.0 can co-exist together on the same Windows XP computer.

To make the speech engines work with Microsoft Agent in Windows XP, download the file below and install it.

spchapi.exe

Question: I am trying to install your some of your Ahsha Software and the installation seems to be missing some files.

Answer: Try downloading and running the Visual Basic 6 Runtime file listed below.

VBRun60sp5.exe

For Windows 3.1 ONLY
Error Message --> Couldn't lock file; SHARE.EXE hasn't been loaded.
Error 3050

To enable file and record locking in a multi-user environment, you must first load SHARE.EXE. To load SHARE.EXE

1) Exit Microsoft Windows.
2) Add the following line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
C:\Dos\Share.exe /L:500
If you don't have an AUTOEXEC.BAT file on your system, enter the preceding line at the command prompt before you start Windows. The number of locks you use depends on the particular applications you run and the number of files locked at any given time. If other applications require file locks, you may need to specify more than 500 locks.

3) Reboot your system, then try the operation again.

If you encounter any errors that includes the following file - VBDB300.dll. You have two copies of this file on your system. One in your Windows directory and one in your Windows\System directory. To fix this error, rename the one in your Windows directory and the software will run correctly.
