Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

I loaded your Internet version of your software, but the buttons at the bottom of the screen are blocked and I can't move from question to question.

Answer:

You are using Windows 95, or 98 and the Taskbar is blocking the buttons. Click the 'Start' button and then 'Settings'. Then click 'Taskbar'. Check the 'Autohide' button and click okay. The taskbar will now be out of the way. To access the taskbar, simply draw the mouse to the bottom of the screen and the taskbar will reappear.

Question:
I downloaded your software, but when I try to install it I get an error that says a file is already in use and can not install. What do I do?

Answer:
Simply ignore the error and the software will continue installing.

Question:

I purchased software from you and you e-mailed me a file so that the Internet version of the software becomes fully operational. I still only get the Internet version. Why?

Answer:

You must run the setup.exe file that was e-mailed to you and make sure that it installs in the same directory where you installed the Internet version. For instance if you followed the default settings for installing Signal 18 EMT-B Study Helper, the software was installed in C:\ProgramFiles\EMT30. You should just simply follow the default settings when installed the e-mail file, and it will also install in C:\ProgramFiles\EMT30. If you installed the Internet version in another folder, you must be sure to install the e-mailed file in that same folder.

Question:
What is the TestMaker Upgrade?

Answer:
The current versions of Signal 18, Signal 102, Hazardous Materials Study Helper, EMT-Intermediate, and A*L*S Paramedic Study Helper come with the option to unlock the Knightlite TestMaker Upgrade Module.  TestMaker is a completely separate software package that Knightlite sells.  We have bundled it with these software packages as an option to make it easier for Firefighters, EMTs, Paramedics and Instructors to create custom tests. The price for these packages are $19.95 each.

TestMaker allows you to create 21 additional question banks.  Questions  can be entered in by hand or the user can go to one of the standard question banks, click on a button and the question automatically is entered in any one of the 21 question banks of the user's choosing.

The TestMaker Upgrade Module also gives the user a check-as-you-type spell checker that will check your spelling as you enter your question.

Question:

I am trying to install the Internet version of your software. The software begins to install, but then for some reason stops. What's happening?

Answer:

You have a bad download. Try downloading the software again and reinstall it.

Question:
How do the registered versions of your software differ from the Internet versions?

Answer:
The Internet versions are incomplete. For instance, Signal 102 - Fire Fighter I/II Study Helper Internet version has about 300 questions that can be accessed, plus no way to add, delete, or edit questions. The full version can do all of the above and comes with over 1330 questions. The Internet version of Signal 18 - EMT-B Study Helper comes with almost 200 questions verses the 1100 questions found in the full version. Fire Call Log allows you to enter only 15 records, while in the full version one can enter as many records as you wish.

Question:
How come you have combined your Fire Fighter 1 and 2 programs into one program?

Answer:
The Fire Fighter 1 and 2 curriculums overlap each other. It is difficult to tell where level one leaves off and where level two starts. Version 4.0 of Signal 102 allows the user to quickly and easily access both levels at the same time or access each individual level in one software package.

Question:
What is the source of the questions for your Fire Fighter I/II Software?

Answer:
The questions are based on material found in the "Essentials Of Fire Fighting - 4th Edition." Our version 3.0 software which was based on Essentials 3rd Edition is still available.
